Planting, Cleaning, Feng Shui

This time of year I find myself pulling all sorts of flotsam and jetsam from the garden.  Then I remember that all the dead stuff is as much a part of the cycle as water is for growth.  No yin, no yang.  So what are we to do – what would Feng Shui have to say?

Simply break up the dead material into as fine pieces as you can and use them as compost.  Breaking them up synergistically helps them break down into nutrients for living plants and soil.  For the weeds which are trying to take over the world, put those into a 5 gallon bucket and fill it with water. Weight it down with a stone and let it rest for 3 days.  Then pour the water onto you living plants.  This weed tea is a valuable fertilizer that costs you nothing.  You can then add the “tea leaves” to the compost pile.

Remember, using chemical fertilizers and weed killer, you destroy the life of the soil.  Which means a) you must always use more and more chemical fertilizer because the soil can no longer do it’s work; and b) you have just decimated an entire living ecosystem in the interests of instant results.  It’s not the way Nature works, it shouldn’t be the way you work.

What’s Feng Shui about this?  You are using everything to build better nourishment and health.  You are cleaning out a space, but not discarding, rather recycling.  The results is aesthetically more beautiful and far more nourishing.  That’s what the correct use of Feng Shui can do – so see you in the garden?

Philosophy, mathmatics & Feng Shui

I recently saw a most amazing film,  Between the Folds, a movie, I thought, that was about origami or paper folding.  Taking a flat single piece of paper and with no cutting, no gluing,  nothing but folding, changing it into a three dimensional object.  Little did I realize this is only the surface, just as hanging a crystal from the ceiling in Feng Shui is just the surface of a profound subject of study.  By the end of the film, one starts to grok that the implications manifested by the simple act of folding paper can affect our knowledge of the way the Universe works, offering profound changes in mathematics education, seriously  influencing the development of new drugs.  The possibilities are staggering – literally.

And how is this Feng Shui?  Quite simply, the deeper I go into Feng Shui and it’s relationship to the natural world, the more profound I find it to be.  It’s very much like music by Bach – seemingly pleasant and innocuous at first listening, then “unfolding” into the work of pure genius.  The short preview online for the film (use the link above) gives only the most surface glance.  Try to get a hold of a copy – you will want to introduce it to your local school system, you will want young people to see it, and you will have a new understanding of wonderfully complex seemingly simple things can be.  I’d love to hear your comments.

Wikipedia has a couple of interesting articles on origami which you may also want to check out.

Fend Shui Your Finances

I am a big fan of The Huffington Post.  Guess that lets you know where my political proclivities are.  In any event, when this article appeared today I checked it out.  And while I don’t agree with all the reccomendations, I think it’s a worthwhile read and you might pick up something worth trying.  In these dificult times, I’m all for increasing anyone’s prosperity in every dimension possible.

Closet Feng Shui

Most of us do not live in homes with a basement or an attic.  Both these places are famous for gathering clutter.  Now we have garages! And storage units!  But the bowels of our home are our closets.  And that’s were lots of energy gets stagnant.

So when you feel stuck, take a look inside your closets.  Are they crammed?  Disorganized?  Cluttered?  Filled with clothes and coats you no longer wear, or wear only occasionally?

Take some time this weekend and really thin out just one of your closets.  Then clean it and only put back ONLY what you’ve worn in the last 7 months.  Everything else? Goes to Goodwill or the Free shop.  You’ll not only start to clean out your own energy, you’ll be doing good for someone less fortunate.  I like the idea of finding where folks can get clothes for free – too many are losing their homes and are having a really hard time of it.  And so in this land of plenty, let’s move the plenty around to a place where others can use it.  Your soul will lift.  And that’s good Feng Shui!

Animals & Feng Shui

Take a good look.

I’ve often spoken of animal’s intelligence, but here is a case where one species has recognized the energetic need of another.  What caused the squirrel monkey to protect/adopt the baby kangaroo?  Whatever cues the baby gave, the monkey who responded in a positive manner recognized them.  In Feng Shui we look for imbalances of energy and try to correct them for a positive result. That doesn’t mean we pick up strays!  But it does mean good Feng Shui is a harmonious flow of energy.

When we live so divorced from the natural world, sensing where imbalances are present is much more difficult, and the cures not always obvious.  Yet the animals we have domesticated, especially our pets often will show us the good, the bad and the ugly!  If you’ve every had a pet who takes a distinct disliking to a person(s) or place, you usually learn later exactly how spot on the pet was.

Pay attention to animals.  Take time to observe them.  They will show you where negative energy is and where positive energy is.  Watch for the subtle cues that are more than just food hunting. Then study that situation and see if you don’t find clues.  Those clues will help you develop your own Feng Shui sensibility.  It can serve you well.

Feng Shui tips to Sleep Better

Want to Sleep Better?

While there are many reasons why you might not be getting a good night’s sleep, one of them can be the condition of your bedroom.  Let’s do a brief makeover and see what happens. [The most dramatic example of this will be found with the first two pictures on Before and After!]

Clear the clutter.  Unfolded clothes, unread parts of the newspaper, stuff you haven’t put away yet – clear it out.  If you like to read in bed, it’s fine to have 1 book beside the bed – but not 5.  And keep the bookcases out of the bedroom – they’re little energetic fingers pulling at you with all those pages as yet unread.

If you have lots of stuff on the walls, remove most of it. Simplify, simplify, simplify.  Put away or remove more than you’re comfortable having around.  Remove as much visual stimulus as you can and then a bit more.  What we’re aiming for is a Zen room.  When you enter it, you start to relax, because there’s almost nothing there.  Now when you climb into bed, you’re either going to sleep, or become intimate with your partner, or just have a bit of room to decompress.

See if that doesn’t improve your sleep.

Lucky Charms

Here’s a link to a story recently published inthe Phillipines.

http://www.abs-cbnnews.com/print/35379

I find this article illustrative of how much the Orient has altered Feng Shui into charms and spells and away from patient observation and intuitive sensing energies.  Yet this aspect of some folk’s practice of Feng Shui does not mention one point – and that is what you believe in can manifest. The power of intention is discounted in American culture, but it is real and it is powerful. So if your gig is to beleive in crystals, power on.

But for those who pick up info like this, go of and buy some crytals and think their life is going to change – well, not too likely.
