A Feng Shui Insight

Yesterday I was outlining a presentation I will give in two weeks for a group of professional business people.  In trying to figure out how to clearly present the material I saw I could use Wind and Water as the interactive forces which change a space’s energy.  Outlining further, I found there are nine combinations of wind and water which interact.

The Bagua has 9 areas and is in the shape of an octagon.  9 is he number of completion.  The conditions of wind and water total 6, made from 2 sets of 3 conditions each (calm, moderate and severe.)  The 2 together total 6, the number of lines in a hexagram for the I Ching (from which arose many of Feng Shui’s principles.)

While it is said that mathematics is the most gorgeous language in the world, studying Feng Shui continues to show me the beauty, symmetry of the perfect system it is, reflecting the nature of the inverse.  Just another insight into this incredible art and science.

Is Organic Food Good Feng Shui?

There’s lots of comment whether or not you should be eating organic food – or if it makes any significant difference at all.  Food is the energy source for our body and mind – solid chi if you will.  Rushing chi is called sha chi or negative chi. Stagnant chi is not good either.  We look for a balance, chi which nourishes and allows us to perform at our optimum.

If the chi/food we put into our bodies has things which our body does not like, those things will cause a reaction.  We all know what eating too many prunes does.  It’s the same scene with anything unnatural in the food.  And although our bodies are amazing at keeping us going even under the assault of too many foreign substances (preservatives, chemical additives) over time there is a toll taken.

Witness the increase in diabetes.  Witness the prevalence of obesity. Become aware of the shocking rise of childhood and adult asthma. Processed and chemically enhanced food stuffs are major contributing factors along with air and water quality decreasing.  Eating organic means we are only taking in what God gave us, not what Monsanto or Dow created for the benefit of the food producer.  Of course a huge problem is the fact deterioration happens over time, often so slowly we do no notice it until the damage has become acute.  Do good Feng Shui for you body – eat organic.

Use Feng Shui to change you mood

The law of opposites works in many parts of Feng Shui. It’s something you can do whenever and wherever to change your mood.

Feeling down? Facing a tough day you’re not looking forward to? Dress up in vibrant cheerful color. A man might wear a bright shirt or some crazy socks. A woman might step out of her comfort zone and go on the bold side. Whichever, your mood and attitude will lighten.

Got an overly stressed out day planned? Try wearing calming colors, avoid big patterns or too much texture. Dress the way you WANT to feel and watch how it can help take you there.

This doesn’t mean you finish dressing and then forget about it. You keep checking in during the day reminding yourself why you dressed the way you did and checking in with you feelings. Watch that Feng Shui at Work!

Energy Cleaning at the White House

If you look back to a posting closer to the inauguration of President Obama, I posted a rather unusual photograph asking the question was there not a cosmic blessing for the new President.  So far it would seem to be so.  But I want to alert you to the issue of my ezine coming out in a couple of days for an section on what the Obamas can do to make their stay in the White House more harmonious, more nurturing and more effective.  The interesting part of this is that these are things you can do if you are renting a house, or if you are not the original owners of your home or apartment.  The same principles apply.  You just do them with the full intention of sending any residual energies of previous occupants toward the light for whatever their next healing is.
You may not be aware that often we leave energetic imprints after we leave a space.  The most dramatic example of this would be nuclear, where the effects linger long after the radioactive material has been removed.  To look at what I recommend, you can try a trial subscription (free of course!) by clicking here.

The Feng Shui of Laughter

These are not easy times and many of us are feeling uncertain about our future.  At the same time, we know the old saying “this too shall pass.”  There is great wisdom in that little phrase.  If you look at the tai chi – the yin/yang symbol, you know that it is in constant motion.  The more light there is, the less dark and vice versa.  The tai chi is always turning and so at any given time there is a different amount of light and dark.

Feng shui is all about making energy (chi) flow and nourishing.  One of the best ways to do his is to watch the antics of our pets.  Or children.  They spontaneously know how to make us laugh.  And when we laugh, the weight of the day lifts and we feel good again. Conclusion?  A good laugh is positive Feng Shui!

Want something fun in a group?  Tell them we are going to laugh for five minutes.  Someone starts, and the other try to join in.  Pretty soon the entire group is in uproarious laughter and the five minutes pass very very quickly.  Everyone feels better, although their sides may ache a bit!  Laug’phter is ¬ precious – use it often.

Planting, Cleaning, Feng Shui

This time of year I find myself pulling all sorts of flotsam and jetsam from the garden.  Then I remember that all the dead stuff is as much a part of the cycle as water is for growth.  No yin, no yang.  So what are we to do – what would Feng Shui have to say?

Simply break up the dead material into as fine pieces as you can and use them as compost.  Breaking them up synergistically helps them break down into nutrients for living plants and soil.  For the weeds which are trying to take over the world, put those into a 5 gallon bucket and fill it with water. Weight it down with a stone and let it rest for 3 days.  Then pour the water onto you living plants.  This weed tea is a valuable fertilizer that costs you nothing.  You can then add the “tea leaves” to the compost pile.

Remember, using chemical fertilizers and weed killer, you destroy the life of the soil.  Which means a) you must always use more and more chemical fertilizer because the soil can no longer do it’s work; and b) you have just decimated an entire living ecosystem in the interests of instant results.  It’s not the way Nature works, it shouldn’t be the way you work.

What’s Feng Shui about this?  You are using everything to build better nourishment and health.  You are cleaning out a space, but not discarding, rather recycling.  The results is aesthetically more beautiful and far more nourishing.  That’s what the correct use of Feng Shui can do – so see you in the garden?

Philosophy, mathmatics & Feng Shui

I recently saw a most amazing film,  Between the Folds, a movie, I thought, that was about origami or paper folding.  Taking a flat single piece of paper and with no cutting, no gluing,  nothing but folding, changing it into a three dimensional object.  Little did I realize this is only the surface, just as hanging a crystal from the ceiling in Feng Shui is just the surface of a profound subject of study.  By the end of the film, one starts to grok that the implications manifested by the simple act of folding paper can affect our knowledge of the way the Universe works, offering profound changes in mathematics education, seriously  influencing the development of new drugs.  The possibilities are staggering – literally.

And how is this Feng Shui?  Quite simply, the deeper I go into Feng Shui and it’s relationship to the natural world, the more profound I find it to be.  It’s very much like music by Bach – seemingly pleasant and innocuous at first listening, then “unfolding” into the work of pure genius.  The short preview online for the film (use the link above) gives only the most surface glance.  Try to get a hold of a copy – you will want to introduce it to your local school system, you will want young people to see it, and you will have a new understanding of wonderfully complex seemingly simple things can be.  I’d love to hear your comments.

Wikipedia has a couple of interesting articles on origami which you may also want to check out.
